Ola
Onabule wowed fans at the Old fire station theatre on Saturday night,
with a new set from his 5th UK album, 'Ambitions for Deeper Breadth'.
His set was soulful and passionate, and the artistry of his vocal
talents, and the backing of an amazing four piece jazz band, ensured
that Ola was a huge hit with fans and those coming to see him for
the first time.
Ola
oozed charm from the moment he stepped on stage, telling eloquent
jokes and stories between songs, and impressing fans by chatting
to them in the OFS bar during the interval.
The
entire audience gasped and cheered when Ola's remarkable voice boomed
from the stage. Ola's set included songs from a range of music genres
such as jazz, soul, funk and RnB, his influences include Stevie
Wonder and Otis Redding, but it would be a mistake to compare him
to these artist, as he truly stands out on his own, as one of the
best UK soul vocalists of his time.
Ola
incorporated African tribal vocals into some of his songs, which
added depth, and culture to a truly amazing set that had the whole
theatre dancing during the bands encore.
